Schner Scores 15 as Mocs Men's Basketball Hands Donnelly His 100th Victory

LAKELAND, Fla. – It was a record setting night for the Florida Southern College men's basketball team, as it defeated visiting Palm Beach Atlantic, 81-65, on Friday night. Senior Jalyn Hinton is the school's all-time leader in blocked shots as head coach Mike Donnelly earned his 100th victory with the Mocs.
Four different Mocs (4-4) scored in double figures against the undermanned Sailfish (2-4), who only dressed seven players.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
  • Junior E.J. Dambreville opened scoring with a three-pointer just seconds into the contest.
  • The game remained close, with PBA opening up a four-point lead, 11-7, six minutes in.
  • From there, the Mocs reeled off six straight points, with the first three from junior Xavier Rhodes, and the last three from Hinton.
  • The game remained close, with PBA up by two, 19-17, with 9:11 remaining.
  • From there, the Mocs seized control. Dambreville made a jumper before another Hinton dunk put the Mocs up by two.
  • After a PBA free throw, the Mocs went on a 13-0 run, punctuated by a three-pointer from grad student Jacob Schner.
  • With 11 seconds remaining, forward Farris Kabalaoui made a layup to push the Mocs to a 15-point lead at the half, 39-24.
2nd Half
  • The lead would stay in double digits for the first nine minutes of the half, until the 10:49 mark, as Southern kept control of the game.
  • The lead touched 16 points during that time, first on a free throw from Dambreville, then again on a fast break layup from junior guard DeAndre Campbell.
  • Junior Pierce Kiesler rounded out the scoring with a layup with 21 points remaining
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • With 202 career blocks, Hinton is the school's all-time leader in that category. He surpassed Jarel Spellman, who had 195 in his career.
  • Additionally, Hinton is the leader in Division II among all active players with 202 blockls, and is tenth overall in all of the NCAA, including Division I.
  • Coach Donnelly now has an overall record of 295-214 in 18 seasons, including a 100-62 record in six years with Florida Southern.
  • Schner recorded a career-high 15 points on the night, going five-for-eight from three-point land.
  • Hinton led all scorers with 18 points. Dambreville added 16, Schner 15, and Rhodes 14.
  • Dambreville and Hinton recorded the only double-doubles in the game, with 11 and 10 caroms, respectively.
  • FSC forced 17 PBA turnovers, resulting in 27 points.
UP NEXT
The Mocs will host Barry University tomorrow, Saturday, at 4:00 p.m., in the regular season finale. Florida Southern will open the 2021 Sunshine State Conference Championships, hosting Rollins College, on Tuesday, March 16, at 6:00 p.m.
