Mackenzie Steele, the Florida Southern women's basketball won at Barry University on Saturday, 68-53.
The Mocs led wire to wire, in improving to 5-2, while the Bucs drop to 5-4. This was the regular season finale for both programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
- The Mocs controlled the opening tip, and Jenike promptly made a jumper in the lane for a 2-0 lead.
- Junior Ashley Shell then made a layup in the paint, and the Mocs led 4-0.
- After a Barry bucket, Southern went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three-pointer from senior Marta Aranda.
- Aranda would then hit another three, pushing the Mocs to a 15-5 lead.
- Barry would score the last six points of the first quarter, and the Mocs led 15-11 after one.
2nd Quarter
- Midway through the period, FSC led 28-22. From there, the Mocs offense took over, with a 10-0 run to end the quarter.
- The Mocs would outscore the Bucs, 23-11, in the 2nd quarter, with Steele accounting for 11 points in that span.
- In the second quarter, the Mocs defense held Barry to just 18.2% shooting from the field, on only four made baskets.
- The Moc defense held Barry to zero points over the final 4:57 of the quarter.
3rd Quarter
- Jenike's jumper on the Mocs first possession of the second half was good, and the lead swelled to 18 points, 40-22.
- The lead would touch 19 points, on a Jenike jumper with 3:37 remaining.
- Barry would close the gap to as few as 11 points, but the Mocs led after three, 53-40.
4th Quarter
- The Southern lead would never drop into single digits in the final stanza.
- With the lead down to ten, The Mocs went on a 7-0 run midway through the quarter, as a Jenike put back put the Mocs up, 63-46.
- Jenike's final points of the game came at 1:19, when her free throws put FSC up 68-50.
- A Barry three would give us the final score, 68-53.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Joining Jenike and Steele in double figure scoring was Aranda, who had 13 points, with four three pointers made.
- The Mocs had 16 assists on 25 baskets, led by Jenike's seven.
- Shell had a solid performance, with eight points, nine rebounds, and three steals.

The Florida Southern women's basketball team drew the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Sunshine State Conference Championships, and will travel to face the No. 3 University of Tampa on March 16, for a 5:00 p.m. tip. The winner will then face the winner of the #2 Barry/#7 Saint Leo matchup.
