No. 8 Mocs Women's Lacrosse Beats No. 21 Florida Tech on Senior Day, 17-3

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 8 Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team opened the 2021 season with a convincing 17-3 victory over No. 21 Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon, in the season opener for both programs.
Hailey Daleo and Marina Jozokos each scored four goals to lead the Mocs, who celebrated the seniors for both programs prior to the opening draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
  • Not even three minutes into the game, sophomore attack Daleo scored her first of the season, unassisted, putting the Mocs up 1-0.
  • Less than a minute later, Tech tied the score on a Kailee O'Brien goal.
  • From there, the Mocs scored eleven unanswered goals to take a 12-1 lead at halftime.
  • Jozokos, a senior attack, scored her first two goals over a two-minute span, to push the Mocs to a 3-1 lead.
  • Daleo tallied the eventual game-winner, on a Jozokos pass, at the 16:42 mark.
  • Freshman midfielder Krystal Beebe scored a pair of goals in 91 seconds, making the score 6-1.
  • Senior defender Becca Hill would score a player-down goal, the last tally of the half, with 1:44 remaining.
2nd Half
  • Just as in the first half, Tech scored the first goal, O'Brien's second of the game.
  • From there, the Mocs continued to control play, scoring the next five goals.
  • Sophomore attack Lizzy Lynch had the final tally for the home team, with nearly 15 minutes remaining.
  • The game's final goal came from Tech's Kylie Morris, with 5:27 showing on the game clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Senior goalie Brittany Iamele made seven saves between the pipes, earning her eighth career win.
  • Jozokos added two assists to her four goals, giving her a game-high six points.
  • Daleo had one assist with her four goals, for five total points.
  • Senior attack Sarah Grady had one goal and one assist, while freshman attach Madison Tare and Beebe each had a pair of goals.
  • The Mocs took a total of 41 shots, while limiting Tech to 16.
  • Florida Southern's defense forced 14 turnovers, and held Tech to a 75% clear rate.
