LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida Southern men's lacrosse team opened the 2021 season on Wednesday, taking a 22-7 loss to No. 1 Tampa on Moccasin Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
- The Spartans (3-0, 1-0 Sunshine State Conference) scored the first four goals of the game, before senior middie Carson Wallace scored an unassisted goal at the 7:21 mark to put the Mocs on the board.
- UT would score twice more in the first, taking a 6-1 lead
2nd Quarter
- Down 7-1, junior attackmen Cody Bielec and Sean Nolan scored nine seconds part, to get the Mocs back on track offensively.
- UT would lead 12-3 at the half
3rd Quarter
- Junior Edward May and sophomore Dylan Winwood would tally for the Mocs in the third, despite the Spartans winning 17-5 after three.
4th Quarter
- Andrew Madeiros would score his first goal of the season in the fourth, followed by May's second of the game.
- UT would win, 22-7
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Junior Maxwell Freestone made 18 saves for Southern, playing most of the game.
- Sophomore goalie Matt Halperin finished the game in goal for FSC, making one save
- Tampa was flagged for five penalties for a total of three minutes, while Southern took eight penalties, for five minutes.

Florida Southern will travel to Florida Tech on Tuesday, April 6, before returning home on April 8, to host Saint Leo. Both games begin at 4:00 p.m.
