Mocs Men's Lacrosse Beats PBA, 17-10

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida Southern College men's lacrosse team evened its record at 1-1 with a 17-10 Sunshine State Conference road win at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon.
Preseason All-American Jeff Atlas led the way for the Mocs with two goals and six assists, while classmate Cody Bielec scored a team-high four goals. Attack Sean Nolan added five points, on three goals and two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
  • Nolan scored consecutive unassisted goals to open the game, and put the Mocs up 2-0, just 67 seconds into the contest.
  • After a PBA goal, senior middie Justin Dunleavy scored consecutive goals, making it a 4-1 game.
  • PBA would tie the score at four, before the Mocs ran off three goals, from senior Carson Wallace, Nolan, and Bielec. The Mocs would lead 7-4 after the first quarter
2nd Quarter
  • The Sailfish would trim the lead to 7-6 early on, when the Mocs responded with another three-goal run. This time, it was Bielec, Atlas, and midfielder Edward May.
  • PBA would get one back in the last minute of the quarter, for the 10-7 Mocs lead at the half.
3rd Quarter
  • The second half saw Florida Southern seize control of the game, outscoring PBA 6-3 in the third quarter.
  • Maxwell Freestone made four saves in goal in the third quarter.
  • Meanwhile, the Mocs ran off the first five goals of the third quarter over a ten-plus minute span.
  • PBA scored three of the final four goals of the quarter, with sophomore defenseman Griffin Phillips netting the FSC goal, to made the score 16-10 after three.
4th Quarter
  • Freestone again played exception in the fourth quarter, making four saves in the fourth quarter, while keeping the Sailfish off the board.
  • Wallace score the lone goal in the fourth quarter, his second of the day, for the 17-10 final
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Eight different Mocs scored goals on the day.
  • Freestone made 13 total saves, earning his first win of the year.
  • PBA took 43 shots in the game, while FSC took 39.
  • Florida Southern won 22 of 31 faceoffs, led by senior Kevin Horwitz, who won 21 of his 30.
  • FSC was flagged eight times for 6:30, while the Sailfish took four penalties for three minutes.
UP NEXT
Florida Southern has a busy week coming up, with three games on the schedule. On Tuesday, April 6, the Mocs head to Melbourne for a date with Florida Tech. Two days later, Florida Southern returns home to host Saint Leo. Both games are 4:00 p.m. starts. Finally, on Saturday, April 10, the Mocs head to Winter Park to face the Rollins College Tars.
