Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 7 FSC Women's Lacrosse Defeats No. 23 Saint Leo, 16-10

LAKELAND, Fla. – Seven different players scored for the No. 7 Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team in a 16-10 victory over visiting No. 23 Saint Leo University on Friday evening. The non-conference win propels the Mocs to a 7-1 overall record, while the Lions fall to 5-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
  • The Mocs would open the game with a five-goal outburst, starting with a score by junior Maliah Benedetto, just two and a half minutes in.
  • Sophomore Lizzy Lynch, senior Sarah Grady and sophomore Hailey Daleo (twice) all scored in the first ten minutes to begin the game.
  • The Lions then went on a 4-1 run to get back in the game, at 6-4.
  • Sophomore attack Katie Yeagle then scored a woman-up goal, on an assist from Lynch, to give the Mocs a cushion, at 7-4.
  • SLU would score once more to end the half, for the 7-5 score at intermission.
2nd Half
  • Saint Leo would score a free position goal to start the second half, getting within one goal, at 7-6. It was as close as the Lions would ever get.
  • Grady and senior Marina Jozokos posted back-to-back tallies, giving the Mocs a bit of a cushion once again, at 9-6.
  • Leading 10-9, the Mocs were able to pull away with five unanswered goals, including a string of four straight woman-up goals. Five different Mocs scored during that run, including grad student Abby Joselyn, Grady, Jozokos, Daleo, and Yeagle.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sophomore Patricia Werker made six saves between the pipes to run her individual record to 5-0 this season.
  • Grady led the Mocs with four goals scored, as both Lynch and Daleo each added three. Lynch led the team with seven total points, adding four assists. Jozokos added three assists to her two goals, for five total points.
  • FSC outshot SLU, 37-22.
  • This is the second time this season that Florida Southern has defeated Saint Leo, having done so on March 24, by a 17-4 score.
UP NEXT
The Mocs have added two contests to the end of the regular season, heading to face Florida Tech on Wednesday, May 5, before closing out the regular season on Friday night, May 7, for a 7 p.m. home tilt against the University of Tampa.
