Box Score LAKELAND, FLA. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer program opened up their conference action in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) with a 1-0 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday night. The Sailfish currently hold a 4-0-0 record and start the conference 1-0 while the Mocs drop to 1-3-2 on the year and 0-1 in the SSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Christoph Gums attacked first during the first minutes of action but the Sailfish's keeper laid out to stop the Mocs from taking an early lead.
- In the first, half FSC outshot PBA five to three but the Mocs could not find the back of the net.
- Edu Capote put up one shot for the Mocs followed by back-to-back shots from Sam Michaels to try and allow FSC to get on the board, but both teams went into the half scoreless.
- The Sailfish came out of the half with fire as Palm Beach Atlantic's offense was no match for the Mocs defense scoring at the end of the 55th minute after missing four shots just before.
- In the 89th minute, Capote had another golden opportunity, but a strong save kept the score at 1-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Mocs and the Sailfish each took 13 shots, with three on goal for FSC and five for PBA.
- FSC had an advantage in corner kicks, 7-6.
- FSC recorded two yellow cards, coming from Capote, and James Meehan, while PBA had three.
- Mars Gohier's defense held strong during the first half as the keeper tallied just four saves in the second half.
