Men's Golf Closes Out The Cougar Invitational With A Ninth Place Finish

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Florida Southern College Men's golf team finished ninth in the 2021 Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State University at the Green Island Country Club in Columbus, Ga.

The Southern men shot a combined 295 in the third round to finish with a total combined score of 883 over the two-day, three-round tournament.

Redshirt Freshman, Adam Alvarez, led the way for the Mocs on day two. He posted a score of 72 in the final round of competition - shooting par on the back 9. Alvarez's impressive second day elevated him 13 places to finish in a tie for 46th individually.

The top overall finisher for the Southern men was sophomore Johnny Tucker. The key for Tucker was consistency as he shot a 72 in the first round, followed by a 73 in both the second and third round. His combined score of 218, just 8 over par, was good for tied-20th overall. Only a few strokes back was Tucker's younger brother, Clay Tucker, who finished in a tie for 34th after shooting 74 in the final round.

With 18-over par junior Sam Rogers finished in a tie for 56th with a final round of 76. Noah Kumar finished close behind tied for 64th with a score of 80 for the final day.

The Southern men are back in action on Monday, October 4th, for the Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University at the Grand Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Fl.
