Men's Soccer Falls 3-2 in OT to Southern Nazarene

LAKELAND, FLA. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer team (0-1-2) fell during their home opener 3-2 in overtime to Southern Nazarene on Monday evening. Two Mocs scored their first goals of the year as Alberto Diaz and Jake Starling each tallied one goal apiece. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED  
  • The Crimson Storm attacked first as SNU forward's shot just tipped off the glove of FSC keeper Mars Gohier to find the back of the net and make it 1-0 during the 24th minute of action.
  • Shortly after at the 32:36 mark Diaz connected with Christoph Gums to tie the game at 1-1 and send the game into the half-tied up. 
  • Sophomore, Leoluca Diefenbach found the foot of Starling for the 65th minute to take the lead 2-1.
  • With just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation SNU tied the game 2-2 to send the game into overtime for the third consecutive game for the FSC. 
  • Golden Gold rule into effect and with just six minutes into overtime the Crimson Storm took home the win giving the Mocs their first loss of the year. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Starling earned the first goal of his FSC career with the go-ahead goal during the second. 
  • The 2-1 lead during the 65:00 mark was the Mocs first lead of the season. 
  • FSC outshot SNU by 24 to 13, 11 being on goal for a combined total of 37 shots.
  • The Mocs defense held strong as keeper Gohier only had two saves while the offense pushed through the Crimson Storm defense giving the SNU keeper nine saves. 
  • Two FSC midfielders tacked on a yellow card as Diaz earned his during the second half of play and Luca Bernoth received his during overtime.

Florida Southern returns to action this Friday, September 10 at Moccasin Field for an 8:00 p.m. kickoff against Shorter University.
