NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Florida Southern College women's lacrosse is slated to open the 2022 season as the seventh-ranked team in Division II when the Inside Lacrosse Women (ILWomen)/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the preseason poll, January 31.
The Moccasins are one of four Sunshine State Conference (SSC) teams to open up the year in the preseason rankings. Florida Southern leads the way in seventh, followed by Rollins falls in eighth, Tampa tied for 11
th, and Saint Leo 23
rd. The Northeast-10 conference leads with seven schools landing spots in the top-25 while the SSC was second with four. Reigning National Champions, Lindenwood took the top spot in the rankings with 20 first-place votes ahead of Indianapolis (UIndy), Queens (N.C.), Le Moyne, and East Stroudsburg rounding out the top-five.
Earlier this month, Florida Southern was picked to finish atop the SSC standings when the league announced the coaches' preseason poll. After posting a 9-1 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the SSC in 2021, the Mocs are expected to repeat as the regular-season champions for the program's seventh-straight title in seven years of SSC women's lacrosse.
FSC returns 23 to the roster from the 2021 squad, including three First Team All-SSC selections in 2021 in
Patricia Werker,
Lizzy Lynch, and
Hailey Daleo, who also went on to earn All-South Region honors by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Prior to the 2022 season, senior
Hailey Daleo was named a First Team Preseason All-American by
USA Lacrosse Magazine.
Florida Southern opens the 2022 season on Feb. 8 at 7:00 p.m. against Saint Leo University at the newly renamed
Berend Field in the Barnett Athletic Complex.
