LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 10 Florida Southern College women's swimming team defeated Rollins College on Friday afternoon, winning the meet by a final score of 146-110, at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs had a great competition against the Tars and an early conference win in their inaugural SSC meet. The women's team won nearly every event of the 14 total events in the dual meet against the Tars, only giving up one event win to Rollins.
Florida Southern was led by sophomore
Alizee Pelletier, junior
Teagan Michalek, and graduate student
Erin McCann in their first win of the year, as the trio each picked up a pair of individual first-place finishes.
Pelletier took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, beating the competition with a 1:06.89 time, her best performance since earning an NCAA-qualifying time at the Sunshine State Conference Championships last year. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke event with a time of 2:23.55.
Michalek took first place in both backstroke events, as she won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.12, and took the podium with a time of 2:12.38 in the 200-yard backstroke. Michalek qualified for the NCAA Championships last year as she looks to build on her successful collegiate career in 2022.
McCann, in her fifth year as a Moccasin, won the 200-yard freestyle event with a sharp time of 1:55.36 before winning the 100-yard freestyle, posting a 53.70 time at that event.
Other individual winners for Florida Southern were
Olivia Miles,
Allie Brinton,
Rachel Cunningham,
Emily Peck, and freshman
Elizabeth Sikes, who earned her first individual collegiate win with her time of 58.40 in the 100-yard fly.
The Moccasins picked up a pair of wins in medley events as well, winning the evening's final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 1:39.57.
Florida Southern, which was tabbed as 10th in the nation on Friday morning, will be back in action on Oct. 21, when they travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State University, the University of West Florida, and the University of North Florida in Tallahassee, Fla.
