TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's swimming team lost a dual meet against No. 21, and Division I opponent, Florida State University at the Morcom Aquatics Center Friday afternoon.
The Mocs faced took on the Seminoles, competing in 14 events over the afternoon meet, with Florida State the winner with a team score 192 points to Florida Southern's 92 points. The FSU quad meet also featured the University of West Florida and the University of North Florida which competed with their women's team programs. FSU and FSC were the only schools that had men's swimming competing in the meet.
Despite the tough Division I competition, the Mocs had a great showing with several top-five finishes.
Keith Peristeridis finished second in the 1000 free, with a time of 9:32.97, and
Matteo Zampese (100 breast) and
Brandon Wilson (100 back) in third place in their respective events. Freshman
Tristan Clanton had a great time of 1:52.05 in the 200 fly, good for second among the competition.
Theo Peristeridis and
Kyle Hopewell finished in fourth and fifth in that event.
Two Mocs had a first-place finish, as K. Peristeridis continued his success in distance events with a 4:31.83 time in the 500 free. Younger brother
Nicko Peristeridis finished first in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:04.67. Wilson continued his success with third in the 200 back (1:52.37) and Zampese second in the 200 IM.
The Mocs will take a trip to No. 5 Tampa next Friday, Nov. 4, and a home conference meet against Lynn the next day, Saturday, Nov. 5, set for 10 a.m. at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
