The Mocs defeated Flagler, who was receiving votes in the NABC preseason poll, 96-80 before knocking off fifth-ranked West Texas A&M 92-90 to close the opening weekend of play.
  • Jadin Booth, a redshirt sophomore from Omaha, Neb., was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week after propelling the Moccasins to two wins scoring a team and conference best 53 points over the weekend. He opened the 2022-23 season with a career-high 28 points over the Saints. He followed that up with 25 points over the top-5 Buffs from West Texas A&M. Booth closed the weekend with six rebounds, three assists and two steals to go along with his 53 points.

  • As a team, Southern averages 94 points and holds opponents to 85 on the young season. The Mocs shoot .478 from the field including a .408 clip from beyond the arc and a blazing .667 from the free throw line. FSC hauled in 84 total rebounds, 42.0 per game, holding the Saints and Buffs to just 72 combined, 36.0 per game.
  • Clayton State started the season with back-to-back losses to no. 6 Lincoln Memorial, 97-74, and Tusculum, 88-77. The game against Florida Southern will serve as the first home contest for the Lakers.
  • Christian Chamers is the team leader in scoring on the season with 39 total points through two games while three others scored 20-plus points in Travis Harper II (34), Kobie Johnson (29), and Ricardo Saams Jr. (21). Harper II is the team leader in rebounds with 6.0 a game, 12.0, while Saams Jr. and Wes Williams are both at 5.0 per game, 10.0 total.

  • HISTORY: The Mocs and Lakers met for the first time in 2021 as the Mocs defeated Clayton State inside Jenkins Field House 73-67. FSC's top four scorers from that contest are no longer with the program as E.J. Dambreville returns as the top performer who had seven points and a team-best 14 rebounds. Clayton State's top three scorers also did not return this season as Kobie Johnson returns as the top scorer who had seven points versus the Mocs last season.
