MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team sits in first place after day one of the Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida Tech at the Panther Aquatics Center Friday afternoon.
The Mocs, ranked 16
th in the nation according to the latest CSCAA poll, had several top finishes on day one of three days of competition. Following the Mocs, Rollins is in second, followed by Florida Tech and NAIA powerhouse St. Thomas University fourth in the four-team field. A championship-style schedule of events, the morning of competition begins with prelims, followed by finals in the afternoon.
In the first event of the day, a team of
Phoebe Reid,
Rachel Cunningham,
Elizabeth Sikes, and
Erin McCann took third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:37.82. The Mocs followed up with a fantastic run in the 500 free, sweeping the podium as McCann finished first ahead of
Olivia Miles, and
Maja Eriksson, each with B standard times.
The Mocs carried the momentum into the 200 IM, where
Emily Peck won the event, into the 50 free where McCann took third in the speedy event. To end day one, Florida Southern took second in the 400 medley relay behind a team of
Teagan Michalek,
Alizee Pelletier, Sikes, and McCann.
Florida Southern continues its competition in the Panther Invitational with day two of three on the weekend. The prelims begin at 10 a.m. and the finals to start at 5 p.m. at the Panther Aquatics Center in Melbourne.
