MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team takes the top spot among a four-team field at the Panther Invitational at the Panther Aquatic Center this weekend.
The No. 16 Mocs had the first-place spot all weekend and held on by 15 points to win the invite to end the calendar year of events for the team. Florida Southern won with 1178 points, with Rollins College right behind with 1163. Florida Tech was third with 923 points and St. Thomas University was fourth with 567 points.
The first event of the day was the mile swim, in which sophomore distance athlete
Olivia Miles took second with a B standard time of 17:28.28 after an 17:09.93 prelims time. To counter the distance event, Florida Southern had a great performance in the 100 free as
Erin McCann and
Phoebe Reid took second and third, respectively, just one-hundredths of a second behind each other.
Emily Peck was an individual winner with the 200 breast and B standard time of 2:19.06. Freshman
Elizabeth Sikes won the 200 fly ahead of
Allie Brinton, each with a B standard time. In the final event of the competition, Florida Southern finished second in the 400 free relay behind a team of
Maja Eriksson, Reid, Sikes, and McCann.
Florida Southern will have almost two months off from competition before a home meet against Saint Leo on Jan. 13, set for a 3 p.m. start at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
