Jenike Earns New Career-High to Lead Women's Basketball to 2-0 in Puerto Rico

Box Score GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico - The Florida Southern College women's basketball team made it five in a row this afternoon with their 82-46 win against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.

It was more of the same from the red-hot Mocs this afternoon. Marissa Jenike led the charge with 22 points for a new career-high. Her effort was compounded by two other double-digit performances from fellow Mocs. Ashley Shell put up 16 and Anna Denes followed up her spectacular performance yesterday with 13 points today.

Domenica Zamora once again was a key factor in the Moc's tough defense. She led the team with 10 rebounds and was assisted in a big way by Sydney Gomes, Shell, and Denes each with 7 boards. On the defensive end, Maria Llorente contributed 5 steals.

Like yesterday, the game started with a feeling-out period. The lead exchanged six times in the first, but once the Mocs took over, they didn't look back. There would not be another lead change for the rest of the game. After going back and forth, the Mocs would end the 1st period up 28-16. The second period was all Mocs as well as they put up 15 to make it 43-24 heading into the half.

There would be no late-game rally for the Moc's opponent, as the Mocs held the opposing team to only seven points in the third period. They were able to put up a whopping 29 though, and they would see their biggest lead of the game heading into the 4th quarter up 41 points, 72-31.

The Mocs were out-shot in the 4th quarter 10-15, but it would be too little too late as they would close out the game on top, 82-46.

The Moc's defense was once again on display as they scored 32 points from turnovers. They outscored their opponents from the paint 40-26 showing dominance throughout the entire game.
