DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern volleyball team travelled to Daytona Beach, Fla. Saturday afternoon to take on Embry-Riddle in a Sunshine State Conference contest. Due to Hurricane Ian this marked the first meeting between the two programs this season and the two will meet again Monday night in Lakeland. The Eagles took the opening contest of the series with a 3-0 sweep inside the ICI Center.

The loss drops Florida Southern's record to 14-13 in 2022 including 7-10 in Sunshine State Conference play. The victory improves ERAU's mark to 17-11 overall and 8-9 in league action.

Sophomore
Madison Fowler led the offensive effort for the Mocs as she tallied eight kills in the loss to go along with one block. Senior
Emma Shaddix added seven kills, a solo block and a dig to the effort. Senior
Madison Barton had six kills, five digs and a block as well.

Graduate student libero
Beatrice Formilan led the backline with 22 digs in just three sets of action. Senior setter
Mika Garza picked up her ninth double-double of the season with 21 assists and 10 digs.

FSC once again struggled to get rolling on offense, hitting over .100 in just one of the three sets. The Mocs finished with a team hitting percentage of .061 with 22 hitting errors over the three sets. The Eagles hit .182 as a squad with their best performance coming in the third and final set at .250.

The Eagles out-blocked the Mocs 11-4 and also had four service errors compared to FSC's one. ERAU took the match in straight sets 25-19, 25-21 and 25-13.

Florida Southern and Embry-Riddle will meet one more time, this Monday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. as the Mocs welcome in the Eagles for the final match of their season series. The match was originally scheduled to take place back on Thursday, Sept. 29 but was postponed due to Hurricane Ian.
