Mocs Host the Fighting Knights Thursday to Close 2022, Travel to NSU for New Year

  • Florida Southern are coming back from an extensive break from play jumping right back into Sunshine State Conference play after falling in back-to-back games in the Mocs Christmas Classic. The Mocs fell in game one against Truman State 81-64, before battling with #5/9 Drury with a 97-74 finish. Graduate Student Ashley Shell led the tournament for the Mocs with 31 total points in both games combined and 12 boards. Shell also added five steals, one block going 14-for-26 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line.
  • As a team, FSC is averaging 73.7 points per game, while their opponents average 66.2. Now with 4 conference matchups and 11 games total the Mocs remain the top team in the free throw percentage hitting 163 of 201 shots for a .811 average. On the defensive side, as a team the Mocs are fourth in the conference with 414 boards for an average of 37.6 rebounds per game and third with steals coming in with 122 averaging 11.09 steals per game.
  • As a team, Shell continues to lead FSC in the conference sitting sixth in scoring with 166 points averaging 15.1 points per game. Just outside of the top 10 in the SSC is Florida Southern's Domenica Zamora at 11th with 118 points for an average of 13.4 points per game. Zamora sits first in the SSC with 3-point percentage shooting 500 percent from beyond the arc sinking 24-of-48 shots. Along with Zamora's top performances from the field she is in the top five with assists (5.1apg) and steals (2.6spg). On the defensive side, Shell continues to be the leading force sitting fifth in the conference with 77 total boards. Sophomore Anna Denes is just outside the top 10 in the conference at 12th with 61 rebounds.
  • Lynn is on a one game win streak after seeing its three-game win streak snap when the Fighting Knights fell to Flagler on the road with a 84-70 decision. Before the loss, Lynn earned its first conference wins in back-to-back games first against Florida Tech with a 84-60 win at home and later facing Embry-Riddle on the road and returning home with a 71-55 win.
  • Lynn is shooting .498 from the field and .351 from beyond the arch and a .708 from the free throw line. In the SSC the Fighting Knights are fifth overall and are averaging 71.9 points in 12 games, the most in the conference, while averaging .498 in team field goal percentage making 321 shots in 645 attempts. The Fighting Knights sit second in the conference with field goals but are last defensively in team rebounds with just 32.5 boards per game.
  • As a team, Lynn is led by Jada Marone with a 13.4 points per game average shooting .457 from the field and .382 from beyond the arc. On the defensive front, Ella Flore is leading the Fighting Knights with 5.3 boards in 12 games coming away with 15 steals, 21 assists, and four blocks.
  • Nova Southeastnern has been receiving votes in the last three D2SIDA women's basketball rankings as they hold a 10-1 overall record and are 2-1 in the SSC. The Sharks are currently on a three game win streak defeating Palm Beach Atlantic (97-58), Saginaw Valley State (75-71), and Bluefield State (86-58). Prior to these three wins, Nova was owning an undefeated season until the Sharks faced SSC opponent Eckerd in Fort Lauderdale where the Sharks saw it's seven-game win streak snap with a 93-83 loss at home.
  • Nova is shooting .476 from the field and .419 from beyond the arch and a .770 from the free throw line. In the SSC the Sharks are sitting fourth just behind the Mocs, however they are the number one offensively averaging 83.0 points per game in 11 games, while averaging .498 in team field goal percentage making the Sharks third making 307 shots in 645 attempts. Nova Southeastern sat first in the conference with3-point field goals sinking 112 threes.

On the defensive end Frederick averages 6.0 boards per game followed by A'lexus Bryant with 5.0 and Kyannah Grant with 4.2 rebounds per game.

  • #22 Florida Southern returns to Sunshine State Conference play after closing non-conference play with a 1-1 Mocs Christmas Classic falling to Post, 87-83, before knocking off Fort Lauderdale 113-56 before the Holiday Break. The Moccasins saw redshirt sophomore Luke Anderson lead the team in scoring with 40 points in the pair of games shooting 86.7-percent (13-15) from the field, including an 85.7-percent (6-7) from three-point range and an 88.9-percent (8-9) from the free throw line. Anderson added four assists, four blocks, and one steal to his credit in 46 minutes of action.
  • The win over Fort Lauderdale was Florida Southern's third 100-point game this season, which the Moccasins move to 3-0 when scoring 100-points; 100-98 win at Clayton State, 112-91 win over Anderson (SC), 113-56 win over Fort Lauderdale.

  • Lynn is looking for its first Sunshine State Conference win of the year, having picked up its lone two wins over Johnson University of Florida (NCCAA). The Fighting Knights are 0-4 in SSC play in games against Eckerd (85-73), then-no. 3 Nova Southeastern (112-50), Florida Tech (80-57), and Embry-Riddle (91-77). In their last outing, the Fighting Knights split games at the Florida Tech Winter Classic, falling to Clayton State 72-66 before knocking off the Suns of Johnson University 88-70.

  • #2 Nova Southeastern moves up in the coaches poll after earning its 10th-straight win, a 122-104 win over Bluefield State on Dec. 19. The Sharks have posted 100-plus points in eight of their 10 games, including the last six games. NSU scored a season-high 153 points against Florida Memorial (NAIA- Sun Conference). The Sharks will play Florida Tech on Dec. 29 to return to action after the Holiday break.
  • One of the top teams in all of Division II, Nova Southeastern averages 108.9 points per game and holds opponents to 78.3 (+30.6) while shooting 53.5-percent from the field. The full court pressure from the Sharks force teams to average 26.2 turnovers per game while committing just 15.5 per game (+10.7).
  • A balanced attack, five players average double-figures led by R.J.
