AIKEN, S.C. – Continuing their road streak, the Florida Southern College baseball team had their comeback cut short in a 12-10 loss against the University of South Carolina Aiken Friday afternoon at the Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Mocs (1-3) climbed out of an 8-1 deficit in the sixth inning off eight runs and a 9-8 lead. The Pacers (2-1) retook the lead in the seventh and held on for the 12-10 win.
Both teams were scoreless in the first two innings before
Tor Sehnert hit a single to center field and later stole second to put himself in scoring position.
Grady Maguire hit the RBI double to bring Sehnert home and 1-0 lead in the third. The Pacers responded with a solo homer by Jeff Cyr in the bottom of the third and tie score. In the fourth inning USC Aiken scored six runs off three hits, and added another run in the fifth, as the Mocs found themselves in a 8-1 deficit to start the sixth inning.
The Mocs retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning after an incredible eight-run inning. Florida Southern had two singles and three doubles as the Mocs had the whole lineup through the inning. Sehnert continued his great performance with a 2-RBI homer as the Mocs went up 9-8 at the midpoint of the sixth inning. The Pacers responded with four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a three-run deficit for the Mocs.
A double by
Joe Raffaele set Maguire for an RBI groundout as Raffaele score and narrowed the USC Aiken lead in the eighth inning. The Pacers held on the late surge by the Mocs to leave two on base and USC Aiken win.
Peyton Boozer from the Pacers was awarded the win, with Dylan Wilhelm on the save.
