GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team finish in 26
th at the end of the 2022 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
"This meet can be really grueling and I couldn't be more proud of how our team responded," said head coach
Andy Robins. "We capped off the meet with several great finals swims tonight. This was a great way to finish off a tremendous season!"
Queens University were named the women's national champions with 536.5 points, with the University of Indianapolis in second place in 423 points, followed by SSC member Nova Southeastern in third with 368.5 points to round out the top teams in the nation.
Competing in the 400 free relay in the evening finals, a team of
Jazzy Hoffmann, Emily Peck, Teagan Michalek, and
Erin McCann finished in 19
th place with a time of 3:30.75. With only one chance to swim the 1650 free,
Olivia Miles represented FSC women in the event. Miles completed the finals with a time of 17:27.31 to sit in 18th place after the morning heats, with a 26
th overall finish with all heats completed.
Earlier today in the prelims morning session, Hoffmann broke her own record in the 100 free prelims for a new FSC record, finishing with a time of 50.10 for her to the consolation finals bid. During the 400 free relay, Hoffmann broke the record again for the 100 free with a time of 50.00 as the relay lead off. Representing the women in the 200 breast, Peck finished in a time of 2:19.43, just outside the B finals cutoff, good for 19th place in prelims.
The Mocs had a total of six Honorable Mention All-American honors over the course of the four-day championships. Hoffmann was first to earn an Honorable Mention All-American honor after her day performance in the 50 free. The sophomore finished 10
th overall in the 50 free with a time of 23.09 during the consolation finals. In the 100 free, Hoffmann set a new FSC school record with a time of 50.10 in the prelims to send her to the consolation finals, where she finished with a time of 50.17, good for ninth place and another Honorable Mention All-American honor for a women's team-high three All-American selections.
In relay competitions this week, the Mocs swam in three relays over the NCAA Championships. Their best finish in relays was on Friday in the 800 free relay. A team of Hoffmann,
Erin McCann, Maja Eriksson, and Miles competed in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:30.35, good for 12th place among the finals and Honorable Mention All-American honors for the team. For the 200 medley relay finals, a Florida Southern team of
Teagan Michalek, Peck, Miles, and Hoffmann finished with a time of 1:47.28 to finish 18th overall on the event. The Mocs were just outside the top 16 in the 400 medley relay, finishing 17th overall with a time of 3:46.46.
The last time the women's team were represented in the NCAA Swimming Championships was in 2019, where the Mocs finished 30
th overall, with this year's 26
th place finish the best under head coach
Andy Robins and best overall finish since the 2018 finals. The best finish in FSC history by the women's team at the NCAA Championships was in 2013, when the women finished 6
th overall. The last national champion from the women's team was SSC Swimmer of the Decade Allie Crenshaw, when retained her 1000 free title in the 2014 championships.
