Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#6 Mocs Top Oilers Friday Night

LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 6 Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team bounced back with a resounding 20-4 victory over the University of Findlay on Friday night.

Brittany Iamele got the start in goal for the first time this season, making seven saves on 10 shots faced to earn her first win of the year, and tenth of her career.

The Moccasins out-shot the visiting Oilers, 30-20, and played an impressive game defensively, causing 12 total turnovers to take control of the game early and maintain a healthy lead until the final horn sounded. Freshman Ellie Griffin led the way, scoring five goals in a breakout game.

Marlee Moon Gaddy started the scoring for Florida Southern, as she took a feed from Lizzy Lynch to put the Mocs ahead less than one minute into the game. Findlay took a brief lead after a pair of quick scores, but Florida Southern responded with four unanswered goals to close out the first quarter. Gaddy scored her second of the game before Lynch struck twice under a minute, as Iamele made four saves to keep the team ahead at the first break.

In the second quarter, the Moccasin offense came alive with a pair of goals from Olivia Manghisi and Hannah Hale, as they both found the back of the net for the first time this season. Griffin scored twice and Elise Alders assisted on three consecutive goals as the team took an 11-3 win into the locker room.

Griffin scored a highlight-reel goal to start the second half after winning the draw, racing down the field to earn the hat-trick just ten seconds into the third quarter. The Moccasin defense remained on display, holding the Oilers scoreless as the team scored five more goals in the quarter. Abby McFerren found the score sheet as Katie Yeagle and Emma Dudley each scored their first goals of the season.

The Mocs were able to coast into the fourth quarter with a 17-3 lead, eventually tacking on three more goals from Hailey Daleo, Gaddy, and Griffin to finish the night with their first 20-goal-game outing of the season.

Florida Southern remains at home for the next four games, with their next matchup coming this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. against the No. 19 University of Mount Olive Trojans.
