LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The 20th-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins men's golf team climbed five spots over the second round of 18 holes at the Las Vegas Desert Classic Monday at the Legacy Golf Club.
The Mocs carded a second-round 295 (+7) for a two-round total 588 (+12). Florida Southern saw
Clay Tucker jump 38 spots during Monday's round where he carded the low round of the day for FSC at one-under 71. He finished with 13 par's, and three birdies to conclude his second round and to head into Tuesday's final round in 12th place out of the 96 player field.
Johnny Tucker and
Noah Kumar joined him in the top-25 of the field heading into the final day as J. Tucker is tied for 17th after a second-round 77 (+5), and is currently at 147 (+3) for the tournament. Kumar is third on the team and in 24th place at 148 (+4) following a second-round even-par 72.
Sam Rogers and
Adam Alvarez round out the five players in the field for Florida Southern in 43rd and 47th places, respectively. Rogers is at 151 (+7) and Alvarez at 152 (+8) for the tournament after the opening 36-holes.
As a team, the Mocs are battling seventh-ranked West Florida, eighth-ranked Oklahoma Christian, and overall leader Missouri-St. Louis, receiving votes, for the team lead. Hosts, Missouri-St. Louis is in the team at 579 (+3) while St. Mary's (Texas) follows in second, 584 (+8), Oklahoma Christian in third, 586 (+10), and West Florida in fourth, 587 (+11). FSC is sitting at 12-over, one stroke ahead of no. 10 Central Missouri.
No. 20 Florida Southern returns to action Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. local time to play the final round of the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
