LAKELAND, Fla. – No. 15 Florida Southern men's golf used a four-under 284 Monday to close the gap and soar into the top-3 of the team leader board of the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Golf Championship, hosted at Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla. The Moccasins saw their day wrap up in third place at just two-over 578 and have four players in the top-25 of the 55-player field.
The Mocs are led by
Johnny Tucker who is in sixth place at two-under after tying for a team best round of 70 (-2). J. Tucker tallied five birdies and had 11 pars over his second 18 holes of the championship.
Joining J. Tucker in scoring the teams lowest round of the day was
Adam Alvarez, who fired off a 70 (-2) as well and sits in 16
th place at two-over 146. Alvarez had 10 pars and notched five birdies, including a birdie on the par-3 161-yard 18
th. Alvarez, who attacked the pin, left his ball just shy of the cup and got a little help from his playing mates off their shot where he walked up and tapped in for birdie to close his round out.
Noah Kumar is tied with Alvarez for 16
th at two-over 146 following his second round 73 (+1). Kumar too tallied five birdies and had seven pars.
Sam Rogers played nearly perfect golf all day with two birdies to get two under, heading to the final hole, the daunting par-3 18
th. Rogers, who is sitting tied for 21
st at 147 (+3), carded a one-under 71 following his lone bogey on the day on the 18
th. Rogers finished the round with 15 pars and his two birdies.
Clay Tucker joined in the five-birdie club during Monday's round as he finished at four-over 76 and sits in 31
st at 149 (+5).
Palm Beach Atlantic's William Hartford carded a two-over 74 Monday and sees himself sit in a four-way tie for the lead at four-under 140 with George Eubank, Jr. (Tampa), Jake Nash (Saint Leo), and Nicolas Quintero (Barry).
No. 1 Barry is holding a one-stroke lead, 574 (-2) after shooting an even-par 288 for the second 18 holes of the championship and will look to play with two in chase, Saint Leo (575) and Florida Southern close behind (578).
