  • Florida Southern is in the midst of their 2022 season as they traveled to Boca Raton to take on the Fighting Knights of Lynn University last weekend for a three game series. The Mocs came away with their second SSC series win of the season and first on the road with a 7-1 win and 3-0 loss to open up the series. In a single game on Friday the Mocs took the series winning 6-3 to seal the SSC series. Senior third baseman, Myah Moy earned her first home run of the season in the third game to lead FSC to a win.
  • In conference play the Mocs added their seventh conference win to their SSC resume along with their second conference series win. Despite the conference series win over the weekend, FSC moved up above PBA after the weekend series against Lynn. They stayed hitting a .271 batting average and sitting third in the conference with 158 hits for 22 doubles, one triple, and 57 RBIs.
  • On the season, senior Myah Moy is leading the Mocs with a .374 batting average going 40-for-115 from the plate with six doubles, 21 RBIs and a homer. Overall, Destiny Colgate is right behind Moy, batting .350 on the year with 43 hits, 16 doubles, 62 RBIs and a homerun. Jadin Dewith and Maddi Conner are both hitting in the 300s for the Mocs as Dewith is averaging .314 and Conner at .305. Leadoff, Dewith has 38 hits, 18 runs, two doubles, and five RBIs, while Conner has a homer, three triples, five doubles, 13 RBIs, and 32 hits. In the circle, Kayla Hickey owns a 5-4 record, pitching the most games for FSC with 21 having four complete games with 58 innings pitched striking out 30 batters. Mel Rogers is leading the way with strikeouts sending 44 batters back to the dugout
  • Saint Leo is on a one game losing streak falling 1-0 to non conference opponent Flagler. Despite the Lions being in the SSC they are competing in a non conference doubleheader. The Lions have one at least one game in every SSC series except against No. 20 Rollins and No. 13 Tampa. Earlier in the season to open up the SSC play the Mocs and Lions opened up the conference season sweeping FSC 3-0 back in February.
  • On the season, Emily Pilon is leading the way for Saint Leo batting a .347 playing in all 37 games for the Lions. Right behind Pilon is Bayley Williams with a .345 batting average for 30 hits and Pilon with 34. Two other Lions are batting in the .300s with Isabella Andujar (.320) and Hope Epps (.314) closing out the top batters for Saint Leo. In the top five in the SSC for pitching is Morgan Shannon with a 1.44 ERA. Shannon has struck out 73 batters for an 8-5 record in 82.2 innings pitched.
  • HISTORY: Despite being on a four game losing streaking against Saint Leo the Mocs have 87 wins in 133 meetings. The last win for FSC was home on March 13, 2021 with a 4-1 decision.
  • Opponent: Rollins
  • Date | Time: April 20, 2022 | 6:00 PM
  • Location: Lakeland, Fla. | Henley Field
  • Records: Florida Southern 24-16, 15-6 SSC | Rollins 28-11, 13-8 SSC
  • Florida Southern will host No. 11 Rollins in a midweek non-conference matchup after going consecutive weeks with a conference sweep. The latest sweep was last weekend's home series against Lynn University, which the Mocs started Friday night with a 5-2 win. A first inning homer by Nick Wells started the Florida Southern scoring, with RBI hits by Ryan Jenkins and Jeff Liquori. Last two runs came from solo homers by Duncan Hunter and Joe Raffaele. Saturday's doubleheader was won 3-1 and 2-1 as Florida Southern had great pitching by Aric McAtee and Dawson Lane.
  • The Mocs are continuing to use a slightly different lineup, with big hitter Liquori in the cleanup spot and Nathan Chevalier leading off. Liquori continues to sit in second in the conference in the home run category with 13 on the season, and Hunter right behind with 11 homers. With 44 runs scored, Liquori is second in the conference as well as second in slugging percentage (.660). Three Moccasins are batting over .300 as Liquori is third with .333, Hunter in second with .342, and Chevalier leading off with .352. Liquori is the only player on the team to start in all 40 of the games so far this season, with Connor berry appearing in all 40 and starting 39 of them. Hunter has started and appeared in 39 games.
  • On the mound, the Mocs have found great success the last few weeks. A focus on defense, fielding, and pitching has brought a change to FSC's normal high scoring games, but heavily efficient, winning 10 of their last 13 games. Reigning SSC Pitcher of the Week, Nathan Madej had consecutive weeks with the honor, and his fourth of the season. Madej had 10 strikeouts in seven innings in Friday's game. He leads the conference in opposing batting average, .160, and just 24 hits allowed in his nine appearances.
  • Rollins faces a familiar foe in Florida Southern as this marks the fifth time this season the two have met. The Tars last competition came with a weekend series at Eckerd, which they lost their first game before the doubleheader sweep to win the series. Last Friday's loss came with a gut-wrenching bases loaded walk for a free score as the Tritons walk off and win in the bottom of the ninth. The Tars rebounded for a close game one doubleheader match which they won 12-11 and ran away with a 18-5 win in game two.
  • The Tars are led by Jeslyn Whitehead who was named SSC Player of the Week on Monday after recording a .600/.636/.800 during the week. He had multiple hits in each game and four doubles. Other leaders include Chase Achuff with 13 doubles on the season and Nick Santucci, who has 12 homers on the season. On the mound, Rollins has Jaylyn Whitehead with a 1.39 ERA, second-best in the conference, with Austin Long right behind with a 1.40 ERA and third best. Jaylyn Whitehead has gone a league-best 71.0 innings and recorded seven wins this season.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs hold a 154-81 overall record coming into Wednesday's game. The teams are split 2-2 on the season when facing each other, after the Mocs took the conference series a few weeks ago with a doubleheader sweep, and Tars beating Florida Southern last time out in a 10-6 win at Rollins last week despite a grand slam by Jared DeSantolo.
