DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team split their doubleheader to win the Sunshine State Conference series against Embry-Riddle Saturday afternoon at Sliwa Stadium. FSC won the Friday night game with a 7-5 score to capture the 2-1 series.
The Mocs (28-19, 19-8 SSC) won the first game 6-3, spawned from a
Connor Berry homer in the second and consistent hitting. The Eagles (21-25, 9-18 SSC) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give them a 4-3 win, which they held on for their only win of the series against the Mocs.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 6, EMBRY-RIDDLE 3
The Mocs were unable to score in the first, before Embry-Riddle hit an RBI single by Post to score and 1-0 Eagles lead in the bottom of the first. However, the Mocs were quick to respond with a two-run homer by Berry to bring
Jeff Liquori home and take the lead. Florida Southern did not stop there as they tacked on back-to-back runs. An RBI single by Liquori sent
Nick Wells to Score, before a sacrifice fly by Berry brought
Duncan Hunter home for a 4-1 Moccasin lead through three innings.
Looking to extend their lead,
Nathan Chevalier succeeded with an RBI single to center field as
Seth Cannady scored and 5-1 lead.
Aric McAtee worked to keep the Eagles at bay for most of the game, until a sacrifice fly in the sixth added one run and 5-2 score. A wild pitch by Embry-Riddle allowed the Mocs to score their sixth run and comfortable lead. Utilizing
Christian Suarez and
Ryan Langford, Florida Southern kept the Eagles to just one more run, off an RBI double by Marinello to keep a 6-3 FSC win and series win.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 3, EMBRY-RIDDLE 4
Looking for a series sweep, the Mocs started hot with a two RBI double by Berry to send Liquori and Chevalier home and early 2-0 lead in the first. The Eagles cut into the lead with an RBi single in the bottom of the first, but still down by one early.
The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a wild pitch run and 2-2 game. Both teams went scoreless in the pitching dual as
Dawson Lane struck out eight in his six innings of work. Embry-Riddle used four pitchers in the game to do their part to keep the game ties, up until the Mocs retook the lead in the eighth off a wild pitch. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, the Eagles took the game with a two-run homer by Coldsnow, which Embry-Riddle's Balsam struck out three in the ninth to keep the game a 4-3 win for the Eagles.

The Mocs will return home for their regular season finale and a three-game series against Nova Southeastern, beginning on Sunday, May 8
th, at Henley Field. A Senior Day ceremony will take place during the Sunday game.
