#10 Men's Golf in Seventh After Round 1 of NCAA National Championship

DEARBORN, Mich. - No. 10 Florida Southern Men's Golf closed the first 18 holes of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship stroke play in seventh place out of the 20-team field at 11-over 299. The Moccasins finished the day with the 11-over in 15^th place, and watched their score climb the board as the conclusion of the round ended late in the evening.
 
The Moccasins were led by Clay Tucker in round one who carded a one-over 73 on the par-72 7,056-yard course at TPC Michigan Monday. C. Tucker used 10 pars and two birdies along with an eagle on the par-5 13^th to close his round inside the top-15 of the 108-player field, tied for 13th.
 
Clay Tucker was named to the 2022 NCAA DII PING All-South Region team, where of the 14 golfers on the South team, Tucker was one of eight Sunshine State Conference golfers named to the region team.
 
 
Johnny Tucker and Bryce Walker are tied for 33rd after a 75 (+3) opening round. J. Tucker used nine pars and three birdies for his first round while Walker had eight pars and four birdies during Monday's round.
 
Sam Rogers and Adam Alvarez tied for the team lead for number of pars with 11 each while Rogers tallied two birdies with Alvarez at one. Rogers finished his round at four-over 76 and in 44th place while Alvarez shot a 79 (+7) for 74th place heading into Tuesday's second round.
 
No. 23 University of Indianapolis (UIndy) leads the team race by two strokes over No. 1 Barry University after the Greyhounds fired off an even-par 288 for Monday's round. The top-eight teams after the 54-holes of stroke play advance to the medal/match play on Thursday with the quarterfinals in the morning.
 
UIndy's Oliver Mast is holding a stroke lead over a group of three golfers, which includes the no. 1 individual golfer in Division II, A.J. Ewart (Barry). Mast shot a three-under 69 to jump out to a lead for the individual national title race.

No. 10 Florida Southern and the rest of the 20-team-field returns to action Tuesday, May 17 for the second round of stroke play, with the first tee time starting at 7:30 a.m. The Moccasins will tee off for round two at 1:00 p.m. with Bryce Walker, followed by Johnny Tucker (1:11), Clay Tucker (1:22), Sam Rogers (1:33), and Adam Alvarez (1:44) to close.
