DEARBORN, Mich. – No. 10 Florida Southern Men's Golf moved up one spot after round two of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship. The Mocs now sit in sixth place out of the 20-team field after shooting a seven-over 295 on Tuesday. Florida Southern is now 18-over for the Championship with a 594.
The Moccasins were once again led by
Clay Tucker in round two as he shot an even par 72 on the 7,056-yard course at TPC Michigan. C. Tucker was three-over after the opening nine after a double-bogey on No. 2 followed by a bogey on the par-five No. 7. He closed strong on the back nine as he birdied No. 11 followed by back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17. C. Tucker currently sits tied for ninth overall with a one-over 145. He sits just three strokes behind the leaders heading into the final round tomorrow.
Bryce Walker and
Adam Alvarez each finished just two-over on Tuesday to finish second on the squad. Walker picked up a birdie on No. 1 to offset a trio of bogies including two on the front nine and one on the back. Walker is now five-over for the tournament and sits tied for 24
th overall. Alvarez picked up two birdies, a bogey and a triple-bogey all on the opening seven holes. His final 11 holes were much less eventful as he parred every one down the stretch.
Johnny Tucker was three-over for the second-straight day as he earned three birdies and six bogies throughout his second round. His opening nine featured three bogies while he birdied the par-five No. 7. He then had birdies on No. 11 and No. 13 before picking up three bogies over the final five holes of the day. Tucker is six-over for the Championship and is tied for 30
th overall.
The final Moc on the course was
Sam Rogers who turned in a six-over 78 Tuesday. Rogers picked up two birdies on the day including one on the front nine and another on the back. He suffered a bogey and a pair of double-bogies during the opening nine holes before picking up three bogies on the back nine. He is now 10-over for the tournament and sits tied for 60
th.
No. 23 University of Indianapolis (UIndy) leads the team race by one stroke over No. 2 Arkansas Tech after the Greyhounds fired off a 14-over 302 for Tuesday's round, 14-strokes over their opening round score. The top-eight teams after the 54-holes of stroke play advance to the medal/match play on Thursday with the quarterfinals in the morning.
There is currently a three-way tie at the top of the individual leaderboard as UIndy's Keegan Bronnenberg and Oliver Mast and Arkansas Tech's Holden Hamilton are all tied at two-under for the tournament. Bronnenberg shot up 12 spots Tuesday after carding a tournament-best three-under 69. Hamilton moved up eight spots with a two-under 70 while Mast, who led the individual race after day one, shot a one-over 73 to go along with his opening round 69.
