Seven Mocs Honored with USILA All-Region Honors

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 11 Florida Southern men's lacrosse program saw seven members of the 2022 squad earn USILA All-South Region honors today, May 24. Seniors Jeff Atlas and Kevin Horwitz earned Second Team All-Region accolades while five others picked up Honorable Mention honors.

Atlas was named Second Team on attack while Horwitz earned the honor at the face-off. The five others who appeared on the Honorable Mention lists were senior Sean Nolan at attack, senior Edward May in the midfield, sophomore Nick Shannon at defense, senior Maxwell Freestone in goal and senior Craig Connor at the short stick defensive midfield position.

Atlas, a 2022 USA Lacrosse Magazine Third Team All-American, entered 2022 as a two-time All-SSC Second Team selection and was a 2021 USILA/Warrior and New Balance Preseason All-American Honorable Mention. Following his 2022 season he was named First Team All-Sunshine State Conference and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large honors. He had a record-breaking 2022 season where he snapped both the single season and career assists and points records at Florida Southern while leading the conference in assists and ranking second in points per game. He averaged a league best 2.72 assists per contest and 5.17 points per game. His 2.44 goals per game ranked fifth in the conference. He currently leads the conference in faceoff winning percentage at .655 while ranking second in ground balls per game with 10.50. He also ranks among the leaders in all of NCAA Division II in both categories. He is fourth in ground balls per game and eighth in faceoff winning percentage. Nolan, a 2022 Second Team All-SSC and 2019 SSC All-Freshman Team selection, led the Mocs in scoring this season with 57 goals which rank second in the single season record book at FSC. May, who was left off the 2022 All-Sunshine State Conference honoree list, earns an Honorable Mention All-Region honor following a strong 2022 season that was capped by a Sunshine State Conference All-Tournament Team selection. He was also a 2021 All-SSC Second Team selection. In 2022, he scored 24 goals while handing out 12 assists for 36 points. He earned five hat tricks on the season including in the SSC semifinals as the Mocs defeated then-No. 10 Rollins on the road. He scored a season-high four goals at Catawba early in the season. May appeared in all 18 contests for the Mocs and was a physical force around the cage.

Shannon earns his first All-Region honors of his career after leading the Mocs in caused turnovers in 2022. He was named Second Team All-SSC following the 2022 season. He was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against PBA this season where he caused a season-best six turnovers.
