LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 11 Florida Southern men's lacrosse program saw seven members of the 2022 squad earn USILA All-South Region honors today, May 24. Seniors
Jeff Atlas and
Kevin Horwitz earned Second Team All-Region accolades while five others picked up Honorable Mention honors.

Atlas was named Second Team on attack while Horwitz earned the honor at the face-off. The five others who appeared on the Honorable Mention lists were senior
Sean Nolan at attack, senior
Edward May in the midfield, sophomore
Nick Shannon at defense, senior
Maxwell Freestone in goal and senior
Craig Connor at the short stick defensive midfield position.

Atlas, a 2022 USA Lacrosse Magazine Third Team All-American, entered 2022 as a two-time All-SSC Second Team selection and was a 2021 USILA/Warrior and New Balance Preseason All-American Honorable Mention. Following his 2022 season he was named First Team All-Sunshine State Conference and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large honors. He had a record-breaking 2022 season where he snapped both the single season and career assists and points records at Florida Southern while leading the conference in assists and ranking second in points per game. He averaged a league best 2.72 assists per contest and 5.17 points per game. His 2.44 goals per game ranked fifth in the conference. Atlas also ranks fifth in the entire NCAA Division II in assists per game and seventh in points per game. He had at least one point in every contest in 2022 including a season-best 10 points at Flagler and versus Embry-Riddle at home. He dished out a season-best seven assists at Belmont Abbey and scored a season-high six goals at Flagler.

Horwitz, a First Team All-SSC selection in 2022, finished on the Second Team All-Region behind Anderson's Cam Weeks who leads the NCAA in both faceoff winning percentage and ground balls per game. Horwitz was a two-time Second Team All-SSC selection heading into 2022. He, similar to Atlas, had a record-breaking season where he broke both the single season and career records for ground balls and faceoffs won. He currently leads the conference in faceoff winning percentage at .655 while ranking second in ground balls per game with 10.50. He also ranks among the leaders in all of NCAA Division II in both categories. He is fourth in ground balls per game and eighth in faceoff winning percentage. This season he scooped up a school record 172 ground balls to bring his career total to a record of 444. He also won a school record 294 faceoffs and now has a career record 856 wins in his career. He scooped up a season-best 18 ground balls at Belmont Abbey and won a season-high 25 faceoffs versus Lynn. He became just the third men's lacrosse student-athlete in conference history to earn five weekly awards in one season and the 44th student-athlete in any conference sport as he was named Specialist of the Week five times throughout 2022.

Nolan, a 2022 Second Team All-SSC and 2019 SSC All-Freshman Team selection, led the Mocs in scoring this season with 57 goals which rank second in the single season record book at FSC. He also has the second most career goals in program history with 140. He had at least one point in all but one game this season. He scored a season-high eight goals at Saint Leo while handing out a season-best four assists in the regular season finale versus Palm Beach Atlantic. He had 10 hat tricks in 2022 to tie the single season record at FSC. He scored six game-winners throughout 2022 including at Flagler, versus Lynn, versus Frostburg State, at Saint Leo, versus Rollins and at Rollins in the SSC semifinals.

May, who was left off the 2022 All-Sunshine State Conference honoree list, earns an Honorable Mention All-Region honor following a strong 2022 season that was capped by a Sunshine State Conference All-Tournament Team selection. He was also a 2021 All-SSC Second Team selection. In 2022, he scored 24 goals while handing out 12 assists for 36 points. He earned five hat tricks on the season including in the SSC semifinals as the Mocs defeated then-No. 10 Rollins on the road. He scored a season-high four goals at Catawba early in the season. May appeared in all 18 contests for the Mocs and was a physical force around the cage.

Shannon earns his first All-Region honors of his career after leading the Mocs in caused turnovers in 2022. He was named Second Team All-SSC following the 2022 season. He was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against PBA this season where he caused a season-best six turnovers. He ranks fifth in the SSC in caused turnovers per game with 2.11 which is also good for eighth in the entire NCAA Division II. He caused 38 turnovers in 2022 including six versus PBA and five versus No. 1 Le Moyne. He had 58 ground balls with a season-best six coming versus No. 1 Le Moyne, Rollins and PBA.

Freestone, a Second Team All-SSC selection in 2022, earns All-South Region Honorable Mention honors after leading the Mocs in goal. He was the go-to starter for the Mocs after missing the opening few games of the season due to injury. He was 10-5 overall in 2022 with a 11.91 goals against average. He posted 181 saves while compiling a .516 saves percentage. He had a season-best 20 saves at Florida Tech while posting double-digit saves in 12 contests including the final nine contests of the 2022 season. He ranks third in the conference in goals against average, second in saves percentage and fourth in saves per game. Â

Connor follows up his 2022 Second Team All-SSC selection with a All-Region Honorable Mention. The honor is the first of his career. Connor scored three goals this season while scooping up 36 ground balls. He tallied goals at Anderson, at Catawba and at Flagler. His best ground ball performance came at Flagler where he had five. He caused a season-best two turnovers versus Embry-Riddle as well.
