#14 Mocs Advance to the NCAA National Championship, Place Sixth at Super Regional

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Nearly three and a half hours after the 14th-ranked Florida Southern men's golf team finished their NCAA South/Southeast Regional final round, the Moccasins saw their ticket punched to the 2022 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship after placing sixth at the super regional hosted by Valdosta State University at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
 
The Mocs finished their third and final round around 2:25 p.m. Saturday afternoon and were out of the cut by five strokes. With more than half the 20-team field still in play, Florida Southern had to sit and out its hope in the team score of 866 (+2) the five players posted as a team. For the next three hours, the Mocs bounced in and out of the cut, but ultimately saw their score finish above the line by two strokes and punch their ticket to the big dance.
 
As a team, the Moccasins tallied a final round of 299 (+11) to make up their 54-hole team score of 866 (+2) on the par-72, 7420-yard course.
 
Clay Tucker paced the Moccasins from wire-to-wire at the regional where he finished in 13th after carding a final round 76 (+4) Saturday for a 54-hole event score of 213 (-3). C. Tucker used two powerful rounds to find himself at the top of the leaderboard following his two opening rounds of 70 and 67. Saturday, he had eight pars along with three birdies to finish with a field-best 14 for the tournament.
 
Adam Alvarez held steady in second on the team and finished 21st overall at the tournament at 215 (-1). Alvarez carded a one-over 73 for his final round and paired that with his first two rounds of 71 (-1). He had 15 pars over the final 18 holes of the regional and had one birdie to his credit.
 
Sam Rogers was third on the team, where he carded a final round 75 (+3). Rogers finished in 41st with a 219 (+3) after his three rounds of 73, 71, and 75. He tallied two birdies to close the event with 11 pars over the final 18 holes.
 
Johnny Tucker also shot a 75 (+3) Saturday to finish his regional with a score of 224 (+8) good for 66th place. J. Tucker started the round with two birdies, six pars, and one bogey for a one-under on the front nine before finishing plus-four on the back.
 
Bryce Walker finished the regional in 75th out of the 108 players after a final round 76 (+4) for a 54-hole score of 226 (+10). Walker saw himself get to two-under thru four holes and battled the strong winds for his four-over round. Walker was the lone Moccasin to register an eagle over the 54-holes where he made a three on the par-5 566-yard 11th.
 
No. 10 Limestone University won the South/Southeast Super Regional at 847 (-17), where No. 1 Barry (second, -7), No. 3 Lee (third, -4), No. 8 North Georgia (third, -4), No. 13 Georgia Southwestern (fifth, E), and No. 14 Florida Southern (sixth, +2) were the six teams to advance out of the super regional. No. 1 A.J. Ewart fired off a final round 66 (-6) to capture the individual regional title at 203 (-13); 69, 68, 66.
