Mocs Set Program Record With Eight Goals Against Edward Waters

Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A record-breaking performance by the Florida Southern College women's soccer team in a new program-best eight goals in its dominating 8-1 win on the road against Edward Waters University at the Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium Wednesday night.

The Mocs (3-1-2, 0-1-0 SSC) were led by freshmen Jasmin Adames and Malia Brost, each with their first collegiate goals. The Tigers (1-5-0, 0-0-0 SIAC) struggled to keep Florida Southern off the attack but did score a late goal in the second half off a penalty kick just outside the Mocs keeper's hands.

Another early goal for Caitlyn Lowery in consecutive games, as the first goal of the game came in the opening minutes off a great pass by Anita Vera. The goal-scoring continued for the Mocs as C. Lowery sent a great corner kick into the box for Morgan Collica to score and a 2-0 lead halfway through the first half.

Just a few minutes later C. Lowery was seeking her second goal with a one-on-one opportunity that Edward Waters goalie blocked, but right to a wide-open Angelina Coelho for the score, her second of the season. Brost, scored her first collegiate goal after a quick pass by Lindsey Meyer. Great defense by the Mocs kept the Tigers scoreless through the first half and 4-0 Moccasin lead.

Florida Southern carried the momentum into the second half with three unanswered goals, including the two goals by Adames. Her first goal came from a big, freeing bounce on a free kick taken by keeper Heidi Harris. Adames scored the next Moccasin goal with a great pass inside in the box and one-time touch for the 6-0 lead into the second half. Claire DuRee tallied her second goal of the season with a great assist by Brost and big 7-0 Moccasin lead.

The Tigers took a strong attack in the second half with three shots on goal, two of which Florida Southern stopped. An unfortunate foul in the box by the Mocs led to Edward Waters on a penalty kick opportunity, that was just outside the reach of Harris and the first goal by the Tigers.

With time remaining, the Mocs continued their shots to add a program-best eighth goal, Brost's second goal of the night, and an 8-1 Moccasin win. The eight goals topped the previous record by the women's team when they scored seven in last year's bout with Edward Waters.

Florida Southern remains on the road this week with a conference matchup against Lynn this Saturday, Sept. 17th, at 6 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
