FSC jumped out to the early 7-3 lead and held the lead until Nova was able to battle back and tie the set at 14-14. Â NSU used a 7-1 run to tie and overtake the Mocs and lead 16-14. The advantage woulkd stay with the Sharks until FSC tied the set once again at 19-19. With just six points remaining for a set victory both teams pushed hard to the end. FSC took a quick 21-19 lead but the Sharks would not go down easy as three-straight points put them ahead 22-21. A kill by Shaddix followed by back-to-back attack errors from the Sharks gave the Mocs their first set point of the night. NSU fought off the first set point but a block by Shaddix and Gilic ended the set, 25-23, in the Mocs' favor.
Â
Florida Southern never saw the lead in the second set despite the close period. The Mocs never trailed by more than four points the entire set but the Sharks were able to hold them off for a 25-22 victory. The third set began with a NSU point but that sparked a 11-1 run by the Mocs who took a 11-2 lead early in the period. The Sharks battled their way back into the set but they were never able to catch the Mocs who went on to win 25-21. The fourth and final set was all Mocs once again as a 13-3 run midway through the set blew things open before FSC won the match 25-11.
Â
The Mocs will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 24 as they host Lynn in another Sunshine State Conference battle. FSC is looking to tie its longest win streak of the season at four matches. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
