LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 23 Florida Southern College women's swimming team fell to No. 3 Nova Southeastern 201-61 Thursday afternoon at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs took on the Sharks on short notice after the meet originally scheduled for Saturday was moved to this afternoon to avoid poor weather. Despite Florida Southern's first meet since last November, the women's team performed very well with podium finishes throughout the meet.
To start the meet, Florida Southern finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:50.03) behind a team of
Teagan Michalek,
Emily Peck,
Elizabeth Sikes, and
Maja Eriksson. Michalek followed with a great second-place performance in the 100 back (1:00.46) with
Erin McCann a third-place finish in the 200 free (1:53.63).
With her second individual podium finish of the day, Michalek finished second in the 200 back (2:14.01). McCann finished second in the 100 free (53.31), just ahead of
Maja Eriksson in third with a time of 54.37. Another two-time individual podium finisher, Peck finished second in the 200 breast (2:26.56) and third in the 100 breast (1:08.34). Sikes had a great run in the 200 fly, finishing in second with a time of 2:08.63 and third in the 100 fly (59.09). To end the events for the women, a team of McCann, Eriksson,
Phoebe Reid, and Sikes took second in the 400 free relay.
The Mocs will host Saint Leo for Senior Day tomorrow, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool. Faculty Recognition will take place before the meet, with a Senior Day Ceremony during an intermission break of the meet against the Lions.
