LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 23 Florida Southern College women's swimming team defeated Saint Leo University on Friday afternoon by a final team score of 157-99, as Teagan Michalek and Emily Peck each logged two individual event victories.
The Moccasins bounced back from a loss yesterday in a big way, defeating the Lions on Senior day.
Florida Southern honored Annalise Eisold and Morgan Misenar, two swimmers that have been with the Moccasins since 2019. Both athletes have been named to the SSC Commissioner's honor roll three times, and each have received the D-II ADA Academic Achievement Award twice. Mocs also celebrated Faculty Recognition Day in a pre-meet ceremony.
The Mocs showed their strength as a team today, winning both relay events, including the 400-yard medley relay to start the day. The team of Michalek, Peck, Elizabeth Sikes and Phoebe Reid got Florida Southern ahead early and set the tone for a successful day at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
Michalek would go on to win two individual events over the course of the meet, placing first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.64, and the 100-yard backstroke with an impressive 1:01.89 finish.
Peck also notched two individual wins, taking the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.55 and the 200-yard individual medley with a finish of 2:14.01.
Several Moccasins reached the pedestal by finishing in the top three in individual events. Sikes and Reid each recorded two top-3 finishes, while Erin McCann and Olivia Miles each finished with three pedestal-worthy performances.
The team is set to return to competition on Jan. 20 when they travel to Ft. Pierce, Fla. to take on Indian River State College.
