MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team finished the regular season with a split meet against the University of Miami and Florida Tech Friday afternoon at the Panther Aquatic Center.
The Mocs won its competition against Florida Tech 160-102 in team scoring, while dropping the events against Miami 203-59 points. The tri-meet for the Mocs proved a great test for the team as they now turn their attention to the Sunshine State Conference Championships next month.
Florida Southern started the meet with the 200 medley relay as a team of
Teagan Michalek,
Phoebe Reid,
Allie Brinton, and
Maja Eriksson finished fourth overall (second against Florida Tech) in a time of 1:50.91 . In the 1000 free,
Olivia Miles took second overall with a time of 10:25.63, beating out DI and DII opponents ahead of
Erin McCann in third place.
Eriksson beat her Tech competition in the 200 free (1:57.34), as Michalek did the same in the 100 back (1:02.30). Reid finished just three seconds behind Miami in the 100 breast in a time of 1:08.91 with
Elizabeth Sikes nearly ahead of Miami in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.74. Other top events for the Mocs included Miles in the 200 back (2:13.02), McCann in the 500 free (5:14.16), and Sikes in the 100 fly (58.22).
Florida Southern will continue to practice ahead of the SSC Championships, which will take place Feb. 15-19 at the Long Center in Clearwater, Fla.
