FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 19 Florida Southern College women's swimming team finished fifth in a team of eight to end the Shark Invitational Saturday afternoon at the NSU Aquatic Center.
The Mocs held the fifth-place spot on both days of the invite, hosted by Nova Southeastern. FSC finished with 346 points with the University of Tampa (919.5) winners of the meet. Nova Southeastern (709.5), Florida Tech (483), Lynn (430), St. Thomas (163), Savannah College of Art and Design (117), and Barry (81) rounded out the eight-team field.
FSC opened the final day of competition with the 400 medley relay which
Ainsley Bennett, Alizee Pelletier, Elizabeth Sikes, and
Angelina Fazzino finished in the top 10 in a time of 4:00.65. Bennett then took on the 500 free with a top-five placement in 5:08.82. In the 100 back,
Teagan Michalek had the best time for FSC in 59.56, good for 12
th. For the 100 breast, Pelletier finished 10
th in a time of 1:08.24.
The best finish for the Mocs on day two was Sikes in the 200 fly, who finished fourth in a time of 2:06.74. Sikes again represented the Mocs in the 100 free, when she finished in 16
th with a time of 54.11. The best FSC time in the 200 back came from Bennett with a ninth-place finish in 2:09.80 and the final individual event was the 200 breast which Pelletier again finished in the top 10 with a time of 2:29.33. Sikes,
Vanda Voroshazy, Jazzy Hoffmann, and
Phoebe Reid took part in the 200 free relay and finished seventh in a time of 1:39.25 to end the two-day meet.
The Mocs will travel to Tallahassee next week to take on Florida State, North Florida, and West Florida on Friday, Oct. 20, set for a 2 p.m. start at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
