TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 12 Florida Southern College men's swimming team took on Division I opponent Florida State University Friday afternoon in a dual meet at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
The Mocs went head-to-head against the Seminoles, earning several podium finishes throughout the meet, but ultimately lost 168-58 in team scores.
Florida Southern had two event wins against the Division I Seminoles as
Kyle Micallef won the 50 free in 20.11, and
Nicko Peristeridis won the 200 breast in 2:04.16. To open the meet, the Mocs finished the 200 medley relay in 1:30.62 behind a team of
Brandon Wilson, Ludwig Mueller, Nino Viallon, and Micallef.
Peter Csicsaky then finished fourth in the 1000 free with a time of 9:43.97.
For the 200 free, Wilson had the best FSC time in 1:45.54, just ahead of
Clyde Crouse (1:45.76), and
Niko Frese (1:49.78). Viallon took fifth place overall in the 100 back in 52.17 as
Travis Oleson was fourth overall in the 100 breast in 57.91. In the 200 fly,
Tristan Clanton was just outside the top three with a 1:54.69 finish before Micallef won the 50 free as the 14
th event of the meet. Micallef nearly won the 100 free shortly after with a second-place finish in 46.46.
Another top-five finish for Wilson in the 200 back (1:54.80) set up Peristeridis and the Mocs to win the 200 breast, with a third-place finish by Mueller in 2:06.58.
Thomas Wooldridge finished fourth overall in the 500 free in 4:41.96 with Csicsaky right behind in 4:49.81. Viallon had a great second-place finish in the 100 fly in 50.65 as Peristeridis finished fourth in the 200 IM ahead of teammate
Boris Mitev (1:59.56). The final event of the day was the 200 free relay which a team of Micallef, Viallon, Wilson, and
John Zeiger finished second overall (1:22.16).
The Mocs will return to Lakeland to host the University of Tampa on Nov. 4, set for a 10 a.m. start at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
