Mocs Fall 2-0 to Bucs

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's soccer team saw a tough loss to the RV Barry University on Saturday evening. The Moccasins (5-5-5, 3-3-3) fought against the Buccaneers (9-4-1, 9-1-0) until the end but ultimately fell 2-0 in the final half.

Barry struck first to open up the action with a shot wide at the 6:31 mark. FSC had two shots back-to-back as freshman midfielder Matthew Male shot high in the eighth minute followed by junior midfielder Felix Tonne in the 11th minute. The Bucs quickly turned the momentum around and had three shots that were saved by the Mocs keeper, senior AJ Pearce. The first half went back and forth between FSC and Barry went both teams went into the locker room tied at 0-0.

Junior midfielder Felix Aakerberg started the second half off with a shot that went far left in the 49th minute, trying to make it on the board for the Mocs. Instead, the Bucs went to the goal where Pearce had his fourth save of the night to keep the game scoreless. At 58:52, Aakerberg shot to the bottom left where Barry's keeper Rafael Furlani stopped the Mocs' only opportunity.

The game remained scoreless until the 81st minute when a handball allowed the Bucs a penalty kick opportunity. Barry's David Polanco went left as Pearce sailed right scoring his 10th goal of the year and put the Bucs up 1-0 on the goal. As time kept dwindling down Polanco found Scott Neil at the 85th minute securing the win with a goal to make it 2-0.

FSC will conclude the regular season on Friday, Nov. 3 as they host Florida Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the seniors being honored directly before.
