LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team opened the 2023-24 season with a big-time win over Florida Tech Saturday afternoon at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs had nine event wins and opened with a relay win to beat the Panthers 178-84.
Olivia Miles shined at the start of her junior season with three event wins: 1000 free – 10:41.09; 500 free – 5:16.07; and 200 IM 2:12.36.
Florida Southern opened the meet with a 400 medley relay win behind a team of
Teagan Michalek, Alizee Pelletier, Elizabeth Sikes, and
Phoebe Reid in a time of 3:58.24. In the 1000 free,
Ella Sieber joined Miles on the podium with a third-place finish in 11:08.42. For the 200 free,
Ainsley Bennett won in a time of 1:56.82 in her collegiate debut.
Anya Bogdanova was right behind in second in a time of 1:58.98.
Bennett went on to win the 200 back with a time of 2:08.88 as
Emily Peck finished third in 2:10.82. For the 100 back, Michalek came out in first in 1:01.29 and Peck third in 1:02.08. The first podium sweep of the day was in the 200 fly as Sikes led the Mocs in 2:06.76, with
Allie Brinton (2:12.51), and
Vanda Voroshazy (2:13.45) finishing second and third respectively.
In the 50 free, Reid represented the Mocs with a second-place finish in 25.47, and in the 100 free, Voroshazy finished third in 56.19. The next podium sweep of the day was the 200 breast as Pelletier won in 2:27.57 with
Brooke Brennan (2:31.17) and
Casey McNulty (2:33.65) in second and third. With her second win of the meet, Sikes won the 100 fly in 57.37 with Brinton in second with 59.61. Finally, in the 200 IM, Miles led the Mocs with Voroshazy (2:14.45) in second and Bogdanova (2:15.59) in third.
The Mocs will travel to Fort Lauderdale next weekend to compete in the Shark Invitational Oct. 13-14, hosted by Nova Southeastern.
