Mocs Sweep Tars on Senior Day

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College volleyball team closed out the home portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon as the Moccasins defeated the Rollins College Tars 3-0 on Senior Day. The Mocs honored their four graduating seniors, including Cassidy Markel, Elena Djokovic, Emily Crescenzi and Jana Gilic, in a pre-match ceremony and it was Crescenzi who capped off the match with a solo block to close out the sweep.

The victory pushes FSC's record to 18-9 on the year and 11-7 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Tars fell to 14-14 overall and 6-11 in league action.

Senior Mackenzie Petermann led the way Saturday afternoon as she collected 13 kills on just 24 swings. She had just two attack errors and finished with an impressive .458 hitting percentage. She also added three blocks including one solo and five digs. Djokovic chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs for her fourth-straight double-double and 10th of the season. Junior Kiersten Kraus nearly repeated her triple-double performance from earlier this season in Winter Park as she tallied 10 kills, 12 assists and six digs. She had just one attack error and finished at .600 for a hitting percentage.

Senior libero Caroline Chambers dug up a team-best 14 digs while adding a service ace. Freshman setter Mary Kate Mulvaney handed out a team-high 22 assists while also leading the team from the service line with four aces.

The Mocs hit .316 as a team while holding the Tars to .126. FSC did not allow a single service ace while picking up eight on the offensive side. The Mocs also dominated in the block 9-2 and in digs 42-31.

FSC never allowed the Tars to reach 20 points in any of the three sets as the Mocs dominated from the opening whistle taking the match 25-16, 25-13 and 25-19.

Florida Southern will now begin preparation for its final two matches of the regular season as the Mocs travel to Saint Leo Tuesday, Nov. 14 before closing out the season at Embry-Riddle on Saturday, Nov. 18.
