LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 19 Florida Southern College women's swimming team fell to No. 5 University of Tampa Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference dual meet action at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs had two event wins behind
Olivia Miles and
Elizabeth Sikes but ultimately fell in team points 191-71 against the top-five Spartans.
Florida Southern opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a team of
Teagan Michalek, Alizee Pelletier, Allie Brinton, and
Jazzy Hoffmann in a time of 1:48.87. FSC's first event win was shortly after with Miles finishing the 1000 free in a time of 10:44.29 for the top spot. The Mocs followed up with a second-place finish behind freshman
Ainsley Bennett in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.46.
Just outside a podium finish, Michalek finished in 1:00.37 in the 100 back for a fourth-place finish and Pelletier took second in the 100 breast in 1:07.39 for event nine. The second FSC event win was Sikes' 2:06.21 finish in the 200 fly, nearly three seconds ahead of her second-place opponent. Brinton finished third in the same event in 2:11.56.
Other podium finishers for individual events included Hoffmann in the 50 free (24.80), Sikes (53.97) and Hoffmann (54.20) in the 100 free, and Miles (5:18.08) in the 500 free. Sikes took second in the 100 fly in a time of 57.25, and Miles with her third podium finish of the day with a third-place time of 2:14.49 in the 200 IM. The top FSC finisher in the 200 breast was
Brooke Brennan in 2:33.71 for fourth place before the final relay event of the day. Mocs team of Hoffmann, Bennett, Sikes, and
Phoebe Reid finished third in the 400 free relay in a time of 3:38.69.
The Mocs are on the road in two weeks for the three-day Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida Tech Nov. 17-19 in Melbourne, Fla.
