LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team ended the 2023 calendar year with a dual meet against Indian River State College on Friday afternoon at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs lost in team scoring 172-88 against the Pioneers, an NJCAA program that has won 45 national titles. Despite the dual meet loss, FSC had three event wins, led by
Olivia Miles with wins in the 500 free and 400 IM.
The dual meet opened with the 200 medley relay with a team of
Teagan Michalek, Alizee Pelletier, Elizabeth Sikes, and
Phoebe Reid in second with a time of 1:50.20.
Ella Sieber represented the Mocs on the podium with a third-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 11:07.35 time. FSC then had second place finishes by
Allie Brinton in the 200 free (1:59.60) and Michalek in the 100 back (1:00.88).
Pelletier finished event nine of the day (100 breast) with third with a time of 1:09.45. Sikes took on the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.34 for second and
Emily Peck third in the 200 back in 2:14.48. The first FSC event win of the day was through the 200 breast by Pelletier at 2:27.32.
FSC then had a great end to the meet with an event win by Miles in the 500 free (5:14.52) and the 400 IM in 4:37.03. Sikes and Brinton took second and third in the 100 fly before a team of Reid, Sikes, Brinton, and
Janie Davis finished second in the 200 free relay to end the meet.
Florida Southern will take a winter break and return with a road trip to Rollins College on Jan. 12 before Senior Day on Jan. 13 against Barry University.
