CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships ended Sunday night with the Florida Southern College women's swimming team finishing fourth overall at the Long Center in Clearwater, Fla.
The Mocs finished the five-day championship with 407 points and a fourth-place finish. Nova Southeastern won the SSC Championship with 1,041 points, Tampa in second with 834.5 points, and Lynn in third with 450 points. Rollins (361.5), Saint Leo (252), and Florida Tech (249) rounded out the SSC field in fifth to seventh place, respectively.
FSC highlighted the final day of competition with
Alizee Pelletier breaking a school record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:15.36 (B standard time) and a second-place finish. Pelletier broke the preview time by 0.44 seconds, previously held by Haley DeGrace in 2019. Teammate
Emily Peck finished fourth in the same event with a time of 2:19.60.
The day began with the 1650 free which
Erin McCann led the Mocs with a fourth-place finish time of 17:08.87.
Olivia Miles was in seventh with a time of 17:19.06. In the 200 back,
Teagan Michalek represented the Mocs with a time of 2:08.45, good for 15
th overall.
To end the championship, FSC finished fifth in the 400 free relay in 3:29.91 behind a time of McCann,
Maja Eriksson,
Phoebe Reid, and
Allie Brinton. In the consolation final,
Elizabeth Sikes,
Janie Davis,
Brooke Brennan, and
Emma Sammons placed third in their heat with a time of 3:35.90.
Florida Southern was led by McCann with 48 points over the week, with Miles (38), Pelletier (31), Peck (25), and Brinton (24) as the team's top scorers. Mocs had one podium finish in the 2023 championship, being Pelletier's second-place finish in the 200 breast tonight. In addition to great individual performances, FSC broke two school records. Brinton broke her own school record in yesterday's 200 fly in a time of 2:03.98 and Pelletier's 200 breast this evening in a time of 2:15.36.
Mocs will await the NCAA press release by Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 21, to announce the qualifiers for the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships held in Indianapolis, Ind. March 8-11.
