LAKELAND, Fla. – The 16
th-ranked Florida Southern men's lacrosse team was unable to get the offense rolling Wednesday night on the road at sixth-ranked Rollins. The Tars remained perfect in Sunshine State Conference play with a 14-6 victory.
Â
The loss drops Florida Southern's record to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in SSC play. The Tars improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in league action.
Â
Freshman
Nolan Tighe and junior
Brendan Glasser led the way offensively as they each scored a pair of goals while three others each tallied one. Graduate student
Andrew Medeiros earned a pair of points with a goal and an assist. Medeiros and senior
Nick Shannon each caused a pair of turnovers to lead the defensive effort while senior
Sean Nolan led with three ground balls.
Â
Junior
Michael Simone faced a flurry of shots on the night as he made 15 saves while facing 29 total shots on goal. Simone's counterpart, Syracuse transfer Shahe Katchadurian made 12 saves for the Tars while facing 18 shots on goal.
Â
The Tars were able to dominate at the face off winning 20-of-23 taken including every single face off in the opening two quarters.
Â
Glasser scored the opening goal of the contest with a nice turnaround shot just under three minutes into the contest. The Tars went on to score six-straight to close out the opening 15 minutes with a 6-1 lead. Four of the six goals came off the stick of Mikey Berkman for the Tars. Tighe scored the opening goal of the second quarter but that was again answered by three-straight from the Tars to make it 9-2 with under two minutes to play in the first half. The Mocs were unable to get another score as time expired sending the game into halftime.
Â
The Mocs looked to be building a bit of momentum in the opening minutes of the second half as they scored three of the opening four goals of the period to cut the deficit to 10-5 but that would be all the Moccasins would score until the waning minutes of the contest. The Tars went on to collect four-straight goals until a Medeiros tally with 2:22 left to play stopped the run. Both teams would go scoreless over the final two minutes as the buzzer sounded on a 14-6 Rollins victory.
Â
The Mocs will not have much time to dwell on the loss as Florida Tech visits Berend Field this Saturday for another Sunshine State Conference contest. The game marks the final home contest of the season for the Mocs and FSC will honor its 23 seniors and graduate students following the game.
