LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College men's soccer team captured its first win of the 2023 season defeating Delta State 1-0 on Monday afternoon.

The Mocs (1-1, 0-0 SSC) dominated the ball with 12 shots, having five in the first half and seven in the second half. FSC was able to hold off the Statesmen (0-2, 0-0 GSC) to seven shots with just one in the first half of action. Florida Southern had six shots on goal to Delta State's one.Â

The only goal of the game was scored off a throw-in from sophomore defender
Marshall Moody just over the midline to junior midfielder
Felix Tonne. Tonne battled past two Delta State defenders and found the foot of junior defender
Jin Inoue who scored from just outside the penalty box to close out the 56th minute of action.Â

This was Inoue's first goal as Moc and third goal of his collegiate career.Â

Florida Southern kept the lead for the entirety of the match and continued to put pressure on Delta State's defense. The Statesmen had six shots after the Mocs goal to try and tie the game but it was FSC who took away the victory.Â

Lasse Dettmer had one save on the night while the Delta State keeper came away with five saves. Tonne had his first assist of the young season. Junior
Victor Beker led FSC with two shots on goal, while senior
Kyle Carr, sophomore
Ruben Linden, Tonne, and Inoue all had one shot on goal. Junior
Luca Bernoth also had two shots along with juniors

The Mocs will travel to Mississippi for its first road contest of the season this upcoming weekend. FSC will face the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, Sept. 8, and close out the weekend with West Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.Â
