FT. PIERCE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team opened the IRSC Invite with a second-place spot after day one of the three-day competition.

The Moccasins sit in second with 291 points, ahead of the host Indian River State College with 412 points. St. Thomas University, Rollins College, and Barry University wrap up the competing teams for the weekend events.

Florida Southern competed in three individual events in the morning prelims, with the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free. In the 500 free,
Ainsley Bennett had the top morning time at 5:01.80.
Olivia Miles, Anya Bogdanova, and
Angelina Fazzino also placed in the top eight to advance to the A final.
Emma Sammons (10
th) and
Lauren Helminiak (11
th) had times good for an evening B final.

In the 200 IM prelims,
Vanda Voroshazy was second to represent FSC in the A final. The B final consisted of Bogdanova and Miles with
Alexa Paredes in the C final. The final individual event for the morning was the 50 free with
Sam Hunter the top FSC time of 23.95 and
Ana Sales (24.13) for an A final. Tied for ninth,
Phoebe Reid advanced to the B final (24.43) along with
Elizabeth Sikes (24.52) and
Kaitlyn Weitz (24.75).

For the evening finals, the 200 free relay was the opening event as a team of Sales, Reid, Sikes, and Hunter finished second with a time of 1:35.20. Bennett then took a podium third spot (5:02.57) in the 500 free, with Miles right behind in fourth in 5:02.83. Bogdanova (6
th) and Fazzino (8
th) finished the A final. Voroshazy had a great swim in the evening 200 IM with a second-place finish, ahead of teammate Bogdanova, who finished seventh overall.

The final individual event was the 50 free as Sales and Hunter finished seventh and eighth, respectively. The last event was the 400 medley relay as a team of
Zoë Celi, Paredes, Sikes, and Hunter took third in 3:51.81.

Mocs will take on the second of the three-day competition tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 22, with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m., all at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex.
