FT. PIERCE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's swimming team remained steady to finish the IRSC Invite with a second-place finish at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex Saturday night.
The Moccasins finished in second place with 926 points, behind host, Indian River State College, who finished with 1216.5 points. St. Thomas University (744.5 points), Rollins College (610 points), and Barry University (47 points) rounded out the five-team field.
The first event of the morning prelims was one heat of the 1650 free, led by Moccasin
Anya Bogdanova in a time of 18:02.44. In the 200 back,
Ainsley Bennett led the team with a second place in the morning heats at 2:06.30.
Zoë Celi also had a top eight time for an A final appearance.
Lauren Helminiak was the final Moccasin to be named with a B final.
For the 100 free,
Sam Hunter led FSC with a second-place finish in 51.87, followed by
Phoebe Reid in fourth for an A final.
Elizabeth Sikes was the sole Moccasin in the B final, followed by
Emma Sammons, Angelina Fazzino, Helminiak, and Celi all made the C final. In the 200 breaststroke,
Alizee Pelletier made the A final after third place in the prelims.
Alexa Paredes and
Phoebe Reid made the B final. The final individual prelim event was the 200 fly as Sikes was third and
Olivia Miles seventh for A final appearances.
Vanda Voroshazy and Bogdanova were B finalists.
In the evening finals, the remaining heats of the mile swim were completed as Miles won the event in 17:18.83. Sammons was third in 17:47.05, followed by Bogdanova in fourth with a time of 18:02.44. In the 200 back, Celi was second with a time of 2:05.43, and Bennett in fourth with 2:06.66. With a great evening swim, Hunter won the 100 free in 51.13, with Reid in seventh with a time of 52.74. Another podium finish for the Mocs came in the 200 breaststroke as Pelletier finished third in 2:18.74.
The final individual event of the IRSC Invite was the 200 fly as Sikes finished in second with a time of 2:04.14. Miles was eighth in a time of 2:12.65. The last event of the weekend was the 400 free relay as a team of Bennett, Reid, Hunter, and Sikes finished second in 3:30.08.
The Mocs will take a short break before returning to IRSC for a dual meet on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex.
