OCALA, Fla. – Alizee Pelletier won the 200 breaststroke title as the Florida Southern College women's swimming team placed fourth overall on the final day of competition in the Sunshine State Conference Championships Sunday night at the F.A.S.T. Center.
The Mocs were three points away from a top-three team finish but ended the five-day championships with 495 points. Nova Southeastern University repeated as SSC Champions with 1025 points, the University of Tampa in second with 821 points, and Lynn University in third with 498 points.
Pelletier won her first individual SSC title with a big win in the 200 breast in a time of 2:16.04. She previously set a program record in the 100 breast in yesterday's events with a tie of 1:02.49. Taking part in the B final,
Vanda Voroshazy was fourth in her heat with a time of 2:23.21. The first event of the day was the final heats of the 1650 free as
Olivia Miles finished eighth overall with a time of 17:19.65.
Ella Sieber was close behind in ninth with 17:33.39.
Angelina Fazzino (18:04.59) and
Emma Sammons (18:40.11) also placed in the top 16.
For the A final of the 100 free,
Jazzy Hoffmann had a sixth-place finish of 52.39 as
Phoebe Reid swam in the B final with a time of 52.50. For the 200 back, B finalists
Ainsley Bennett (2:05.65) and
Emily Peck (2:07.36) were in the top six of the consolation final. The final event of the day was the 400 free relay as a team of Bennett, Reid,
Allie Brinton, and Hoffmann finished fourth with a time of 3:29.08.
In prelims, Hoffmann had a B standard time of 51.99 to send her to the A final, and Reid a 52.71 time for her B final cut. Just outside the evening finals was
Elizabeth Sikes in 17
th of the morning heats with 53.20. For the 200 back, Bennett was half a second behind the A final cut with a 2:04.30 prelims time, and
Anya Bogdanova had a top-20 morning time of 2:11.12.
Preceding her 200 breast title, Pelletier had the best morning time of 2:17.79 (B standard) as Voroshazy was 0.12 behind the A final herself (2:23.49). Other top 20 times for FSC included
Brooke Brennan (2:27.14) and
Stephanie Suarez (2:27.14) for a tie for 17
th place.
Florida Southern ended the conference championships with one individual title (Pelletier's 200 BR title this evening) and several podium finishes. The Mocs had two broken records during the week's events with Pelletier's 100 BR on Saturday with a new standard of 1:02.49. The team of
Teagan Michalek, Pelletier, Brinton, and Hoffmann also set a new record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.42. Several Moccasins set strong B standard times for consideration of the NCAA qualifications.
The Mocs will await the announcement of championship selections and seeding on Wednesday, February 28
th. NCAA Championships take place Tuesday, March 12th - Saturday, March 16th at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
