LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team dropped its midweek game against No. 10 Wayne State University Wednesday night at Henley Field.

The Mocs (8-10) could not keep up with the runs by WSU in a 19-3 loss at home. The Warriors (10-6) dominated the plate from the start with four runs in the first and five multi-run innings.

Florida Southern gave up four runs in the first inning but managed to respond with two runs in the home half.
Bryce Safferwich hit a big double down the right-field line to bring home
Jevin Relaford, who initially got on base from a single. A single to right field by
Jack Duffy then brought Safferwich in for a 4-2 WSU advantage through one.

The two-run deficit was the closest FSC would get in the game as the Warriors kept on the gas with two runs in the second, a scoreless third, but another four runs in the fourth inning for a 10-2 lead. The Mocs had another RBI hit by Safferwich in the fifth inning for a 10-3 WHU score, as the final run FSC scored.

Wayne State continued to add the runs with three scored in the sixth, a solo run in the seventh, and a lengthy eighth inning with five runs added for the 19-3 score. FSC made several substitutions in the final two innings that included
Canyon Marcewicz in his NCAA debut.
Brady Doorey entered at second base and earned his first collegiate hit in the eighth inning.

Neither team scored in the ninth inning to end the game 19-3 in favor of the visitors.
Lake Fisher was tabbed with the loss and Karter Fitzpatrick the win for WSU. Relaford led the team with three hits and two runs, followed by Safferwich with two hits. FSC struggled on the mound with six pitchers used, including
Rhett Raymer, who made his NCAA debut in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Mocs will hit the road for regional play to take on the University of West Georgia March 15-17 in Carrollton.
