NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – After knocking off previously ranked no. 5 Tampa, Florida Southern College women's lacrosse jumped into fourth in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll (April 1).
Florida Southern is on a five-game win streak after the 11-10 win over then-no. 5 Tampa on March 29. In the five games in a row, the Moccasins have wins over then-ranked No. 14 Bentley (17-8) and No. 24 Saint Leo (22-8) before the one-goal win over the Spartans to move to 9-3 on the season.
Seven of eight Sunshine State Conference teams are inside the top-25 where No. 7 Tampa and No. 10 Lynn round out the top 10 with Florida Southern as No. 4. Embry-Riddle (11), Rollins (17), Saint Leo (18), and Florida Tech (20) round out the SSC teams in the newest ILWomen/IWLCA Coaches Poll. Pace remains the No. 1 team in the nation at 9-0 while West Chester hung onto the No. 2 spot with an 8-0 record. Adelphi (7-1) slid to No. 3, up after a No. 4 ranking last week while East Stroudsburg (6-2) dropped from No. 3 to No. 5 to close the top five teams in the poll.
Florida Southern returns to action Wednesday, April 3 in Daytona Beach, Fla. when the Moccasins travel to take on No. 11 Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m.
The Moccasins spent the last three weeks as the No. 7 team after previously holding ranks of No. 2 (preseason and through Feb. 25) and No. 5 for two weeks.
The ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Poll will be unveiled on Mondays throughout the season. It is voted on jointly by coaches throughout the country and members of the media.
