Mocs End Road Series With Doubleheader Loss Against Tars

Mocs lost 3-1 in game one and 6-1 in game two to lose series 2-1

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team lost its Sunday doubleheader to Rollins College at Alfond Stadium to end the 2024 regular season road matchups for the Moccasins.

The Mocs (15-30, 9-18 SSC) lost game one in a low-scoring affair as a sacrifice fly in the seventh the only run for FSC in the 3-1 loss. The Tars (24-20, 15-12 SSC) tacked on runs early in game two as FSC again struggled to score until late with a 6-1 loss to lose the series 2-1 against RC.

ROLLINS 3, FLORIDA SOUTHERN 1
The Moccasins could not score in the top of the first, though Rollins had a solo homer in the first with one out for a 1-0 game. Neither team scored until the top of the seventh when the Mocs tied the game at one apiece with FSC not tallying a hit until the fifth inning with a leadoff double by Lake Fisher. Jevin Relaford had a one-out bunt to advance Rohsean Riley, who reached on an error, though both were left on in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Fisher had another leadoff double and later advanced to third with a single by Jaiden Warde. Brady Doorey had the sacrifice fly to send Fisher home and tie the game 1-1 late in the game. Marcos Herrand had the start for FSC and went 7.1 innings, with only one run in the first seven innings of work. Mitchell LeRoy entered in relief after some early walks in the eighth, which turned into a 3-1 Rollins advantage after a two-run double by Perez.

Three straight outs in the top of the ninth ended the game in favor of the Tars, with two struck out swinging by RC's starter Nick Berger. Berger threw a complete game for his seventh win of the season, seven struck out, and only four hits and one earned run. Fisher led the team with two hits, both being doubles.

ROLLINS 6, FLORIDA SOUTHERN 1
FSC opened the first with two singles, one each by Chris McKenna and Fisher, though both were left on. The Tars had three straight outs in the leadoff inning, though two walks and two hits led to a single run by Rollins. An RBI double by Farner brought in one run, though a great sequence by McKenna, Relaford, and Josh Hines had a second runner out at home to keep a single run scored.

Two homers by the Tars in the third added three runs for a 4-0 lead as FSC continued to struggle to get home. Despite six hits over the next five innings, FSC did not score until the eighth as Rollins added a single run off an RBI double in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Fisher sent McKenna home on a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it a 6-1 RC game, which ended as the final with three straight flyouts in the ninth.

Logan Adams had the start for FSC and went five innings in the loss. Wyatt Clark relieved Adams for two innings and Evan Mobley threw the final inning, though FSC lost the series with a doubleheader loss. Furey was credited with the win for Rollins, his sixth, after eight innings of work and just the single run scored by FSC.

The Mocs will return to Lakeland for the regular season finale with a series against Florida Tech, beginning Friday, May 10 for GMF Steel Night at 6 p.m. at Henley Field.
